PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Dear friends, hope this message finds you well! Have you been enjoying Spring and Summer this year? Time flies and Fall is just around the corner on September 22, 2025!
During Spring and Summer, MSBCA has been engaging and collaborating with other communities. Here are some of the highlights of networking with other communities.
We have had close collaborations with FirstStep Together, meeting in our clubhouse, on three separate events. The first was on May 25, 2025 on painting, and I am amazed at how beautiful the paintings turned out to be. The second event was on June 8, 2025 on jewelry making. Believe you, me, I have seen some ladies wearing the jewelry they made in public! The third event was held on June 22, 2025 where we were taught about healthy eating. I sampled the food and it was delicious. Many thanks to FirstStep Together for sharing their knowledge and collaborating with MSBCA. Representatives from MSBCA also attended the FirstStep Together recognition ceremony at the Genesis Center on August 30, 2025.
We are also networking with other communities at their functions. We attended the Calgary Chinatown Lions Club Charter Night Gala on June 27, 2025 and had the opportunity to network there. We also attended the Korean Day Festival on June 27, 2025. I am impressed at how the event was put together in an outdoor setting! Our members also attended the Shunde Association of Calgary dinner function on August 23, 2025, the Chinatown Mid-Autumn Festival on September 12, 2025, and the Korean Cultural Heritage Festival on September 13, 2025. Another upcoming event for close collaborations and networking includes the Wu Yi Association of Calgary on September 21, 2025.
The CyberSafey Talk held at our clubhouse on June 14, 2025 was well attended. The information shared in the presentation was educational, increased our awareness and learned know how to mitigate potential harm.
We are very fortunate to have a dance group in our association, the Starlight Dance Group. They are so popular and in demand to showcase their grace and talent in many venues all the while representing our traditions and culture through dance for MSBCA. Not only the whole group but each one of them is a STAR to me! Keep an eye out for them because you may catch them dancing in various venues.
All our regular activities are ongoing which includes promoting wellness, health, happiness and create happy moments together. Don’t stand on the sideline, jump in and enjoy.
You may be aware of the ongoing graffiti on the side of our building. Even after cleaning up, the graffiti comes back. Recently, the city cleaned the wall and billed us an invoice, within a week the graffiti came back. Therefore, we are looking for funding to paint a themed mural on the wall and hopefully the graffiti will not come back.
Until next time, stay active, stay happy, stay healthy and please take care of each other.
Cheers,
Peter Chai
