Story by Rina Robertson
Our last Rasa Sayang cooking session, of the year, on November 6, 2018 was a sweet success. Growing up in the tropics, many of us considered chendol to be one of our timeless favourite desserts that is best enjoyed on a sweltering hot day. While chilly days and long dark nights are already upon us since early October, with its first big dump of snow, none of us thought much of the frigid temperature outside as our cravings for chendol was stronger. The delicious thought of tucking in a bowl of chendol filled with shaved ice, drizzled with a generous amount of gula melaka and coconut santan for maximum flavor is all it takes for us to want to try our hands in making our own chendol. Food, whether it’s served hot or cold is the universal way to connect.
In wrapping up for the year, our thanks to Jill for leading the group. Her unassuming, soft-spoken, demeanour, and easy-going attitude are her secret ingredients that gives us all the added joy of cooking as a team.
Team Rasa Sayang has every good reason to sing praises to our Kitchen Committee especially its leader Sandy Chan for the various upgrades throughout the year in providing its members with the best amenities.
As we approach the end of 2018, here’s wishing all our friends and families in the MSBCA an outstanding year ahead. Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and may MSBCA continue to grow from strength to strength.
